Besenbinderhof 52

With the “Scandic Hamburg Central”, the B&L Group is developing a modern upscale hotel in a central location at Besenbinderhof in Hamburg, in close proximity to the main railway station, the central bus station, and the Museum of Arts and Crafts. Covering approximately 18,000 m², the development will comprise a total of 328 guest rooms, along with a restaurant featuring a “living room” lounge concept. The project combines the revitalisation of listed historic building fabric dating from the early 20th century with an extension through a new-build addition. After more than 120 years, the B&L Group is transforming the well-known historic building at Besenbinderhof—originally used by the Großeinkaufs-Gesellschaft Deutscher Consumvereine—into a long-term hotel use. The distinctive façade strengthens the urban character of the area leading towards the main station and relates to the neighbouring façades of the DGB building. Sustainability is a key focus of the repositioning: the continued use of embodied carbon within the existing structure, energy-efficient modern building services, and a high-performance building envelope with a targeted BREEAM certification underline the resource-efficient approach. As part of the mixed-use “StadtKontor” quarter, the hotel will have direct access to the district car park with approximately 450 spaces. Deliveries to the hotel will be handled via Norderstraße. With this development, a new and attractive destination for both business travellers and tourists alike is being created at Besenbinderhof – in the heart of Hamburg.
